About The Quilter's Block

Our store started with a simple sewing lesson that blossomed into a passion for sewing and quilting.

In January of 2020, I set a New Year's resolution to take one new craft or art class per month as a way of increasing my self-care and find new ways of expressing my creativity.  I started out strong with two classes in January and three in February.  Who would have known 2020 would turn out to be the year of unpredictability!

I have always admired the art of sewing and quilting, and despite having owned a sewing machine for years,  I never really knew how to sew.  I would make the occasional project every few years or so with not so great results.  Two amazing friends would change all of that.

In March of 2020, my friends Miranda and Sharon invited me to a Sunday afternoon sewing lesson, and taught me to create my first quilt block, a chicken, for a quilt.  The stitches weren't perfect, and that was OK because a finished block is better than perfect.  That one block turned into two, and those great friends went on to finish that beautiful quilt for me.

I didn't stop sewing there though.  Recognizing there was a spark, I went home and started ordering charm packs, jelly rolls, and even an entire precut log cabin quilt kit!  A week or two went by waiting for those orders to arrive.  When they did, I rearranged a guest room to turn it into a sewing room.  I pieced that log cabin quilt for hours and hours, and halfway through, wouldn't you believe the sewing machine broke down?  Like any great tool, the years of sitting in a case tucked in a closet took its toll.  A simple fix with a single part that was backordered for months.  That didn't stop me though, and not only did I order the part, I also ordered a new sewing machine!

A few weeks later, I had two dozen completed log cabin blocks!  Unfortunately, most of them were different sizes! That still didn't stop me.  Instead, I made the best of it and finished that quilt top with twenty four blocks and three outer borders!  The best part was learning as I went and enjoying every stitch.

Fast forward several months, dozens of precuts, many yards of fabric, purchase of a longarm and a third sewing machine, and hours of stitching; I knew I needed to find a way to turn this new passion for sewing and quilting into something even more!  That's how The Quilter's Block was born!

I hope you enjoy our shop and find all of those items you needed (and probably some you didn't even know you needed) to spark your passion in sewing and quilting.  What are you sewing today?  I'd love to see and hear about your latest projects.  Please use the Contact Us page or stop in the shop to tell me all about your love of all things sewing and quilting!

Happy Quilting!
